about

The song is about a former clown who has a breakdown, in a restaurant that happened to share this clown's (former) name.
It's the anguish of this essentially forgotten person, who used to bring laughs, now brings tragedy to the world.

The song also expresses the surreal nature of such a sudden event that is usually outside most peoples' experiences, as well as the shocking nature of sudden and seemingly random violence.

On a completely opposite, and less serious note, the band's cat, Chauncy, can be heard on a few recordings, but his one "vocal" in this song, was so perfectly timed, we chose to keep it. He always wanted to be involved, and in retrospect, we are both glad we kept this vocal performance from him.
He was truly Chauncy the wondercat.

This stripped down demo version, shows the underlying "pop song" that was presented in a more inverted manner, in the final version that appears on the maven album. The production of the final version, was chosen intentionally, to reflect, in sound, the mindset of the former clown, as he had his breakdown.

lyrics

Buca
====

From your mouth
Invisible clown lips move
One and the same
The restaurant and his stage name

Beppo, Beppo...
Beppo___

Glimpse the obsession
Then hide the regression
There are already plans in place
In the basement

Innocent eater
At lunch from his job
I am witness to the horror
A hit from an imagined mob

From his mouth
Soft words
Before the shouting began
He never even ran

Beppo, Beppo...
Beppo___

Blood, wine or tomato sauce,
No one can distinguish the three
You'd better have another drink
To look again and see
If what you think you saw
Was really what you thought you saw
And if it was all really true

("Raow")

Glimpse the aggression
That led to the transgression
All could see the plan taking place
In the basement

From their mouths
Lips shape the words
That cannot begin to tell
Just how far
This clown
Fell__

Despite being a duo, they rotated instruments for recordings to make full, band-oriented songs of varying sounds and styles. Their music can be generally described as experimental pop, or psychedelic rock, but avoiding cliches of any genre. Serious, funny, abstract or direct, despite the dressing, enjoyment is the focus ... more
