about

Another post apocalyptic setting for a happy tune and danceable beat.
Not unlike Buca before it, Sweet Decay's sound, is messed up in a way to give the listener a glimpse of this weird potemtial reailty
.
In Buca, the sound is from the perspective of a former clown having a breakdown, in Sweet Decay, it's from the perspective of a survivor of a nuclear disaster/attack, and the effects of radiation, including some sort of unpredicted ESP and precognitive senses (or madness interpreted as such).

We felt, if we were going to try to get anywhere near subject matter this serious, that we would personally prefer to do it with humor, absurdity, and to say very far away from being preachy or moralizing.
Stories, sounds, imagery and humor, with opposite feel to the music, seemed to be the best for this song.

Wide-Eyed was also faced with the challenge to have songs that "rocked a lot harder, than the band name implies" (as a friend of the band describes), and Patrick adds "we went with the idea that if we were enjoying ourselves, that any future audience, might also enjoy it (the music)".

lyrics

Sweet Decay ==========

What is the dirt that covers the land?
Organic decay mingling with sand
Standing on the surface that's barely crusted
Magically, majestically maladjusted

Flashbacks that flash-forward instead
Looking around and listening
To the thoughts inside their heads
Lie outside, assume we're all inbred

Worldwide bloodspill
Global Nazi landfill

A summer snowfall
The smell and taste of
The scentless, tasteless fallout
The sweet flavor in doubt
Find a drink in the pan-drought
If you run, will it pan out?
Or is it the same, if you just stand out,
And wait
For the darkness to come;
Complete eclipse of the sun

The world quickly dims and fades
Did it really have to end this way?
The world quickly dims and fades
Did it really have to end this way?

about

Wide-Eyed Ypsilanti, Michigan

Formed in the beginning of 2001, Wide-Eyed is Tina Lambright and Patrick Pyne. Despite being a duo, they rotated instruments for recordings to make full, band-oriented songs of varying sounds and styles. Their music can be generally described as experimental pop, or psychedelic rock, but avoiding cliches of any genre. Serious, funny, abstract or direct, despite the dressing, enjoyment is the focus ... more
