about

In compiling this collection, I was not only looking at songs that had been cast away or left behind, or demos for songs that were different enough from their final versions to possibly be of interest to someone familiar with the original versions, but also tracks like this one, where it is familiar, yet without the vocals/lyrics, a different sort of "strength" in this song, seems to show itself (to me, at least).

Thud's lyrics bring forth the sentimentality of the story, and even the fun/silliness of a song about a kitten, but without those lyrics, the listener can maybe see the music in the way the band members saw it, with the fun of playing the parts, yet still a drive behind the music, and even a sort of "seriousness" in it's crisp, tight approach; that "even a silly song, should be a 'good' song", as one of the members was documented as putting it.

This song was a favorite in rehearsals, especially with the music cycling, fading out, then in again. I included this version on this collection to highlight these aspects to the listener, and hopefully add to their enjoyment of the "normal" version of this song.

about

Wide-Eyed Ypsilanti, Michigan

Formed in the beginning of 2001, Wide-Eyed is Tina Lambright and Patrick Pyne. Despite being a duo, they rotated instruments for recordings to make full, band-oriented songs of varying sounds and styles. Their music can be generally described as experimental pop, or psychedelic rock, but avoiding cliches of any genre. Serious, funny, abstract or direct, despite the dressing, enjoyment is the focus ... more
