about

The band decided to write a song about a strange experience froma February drive through the city of Toledo. Everything was strangely clean, there at that time, despite it being the middle of winter, snow everywhere, salt on the ground - most places are understandably dirty or have salt residue on the floors, etc... but not in Toledo that day. Not only were the places strangely clean, but the people were nice in a "Twilight Zone" kind of way. The song basically wrote itself at that point.

Obviously, the song was written for fun, not serious at all, showing the group's sense of humor, and yet somehow it managed to stay through all of the song line-up changes that occurred with the demos and recordings that eventually became the LUCK album. It was always designated as the final song on the record, ending the album with silliness and a "kick" (drum).

lyrics

Toledo
======

Toledo (Nice and slow)
Neighbors on porches
Crickets making noises

Everything's great in Toledo

Maumee (mommy)
Nothing ever hurts
Can't find a speck of dirt

Everything's clean in Toledo

Ohio (now I know)
Smiles for everyone
Everyone's in the sun

Everything's right in Toledo
Something's wrong in Toledo

La La, La-La-La La...

Formed in the beginning of 2001, Wide-Eyed is Tina Lambright and Patrick Pyne. Despite being a duo, they rotated instruments for recordings to make full, band-oriented songs of varying sounds and styles. Their music can be generally described as experimental pop, or psychedelic rock, but avoiding cliches of any genre. Serious, funny, abstract or direct, despite the dressing, enjoyment is the focus ... more
